ACHR is a federally qualified health center located on South Arlington Street in Akron, Ohio.  ACHR received funding in 1994 from the Bureau of Primary Health Care to establish the first federally qualified health center in Summit County and began providing services in August 1995.  ACHR provides diagnosis, treatment, and preventive health services to the residents of Summit County and accepts Medicaid, Medicare, private insurance, and sliding scale patients.  The agency sees a substantial number of uninsured patients and assures open access to the medically needy throughout Summit County and neighboring communities.

A FQHC is a not-for-profit corporation that delivers primary medical, dental, mental, and preventive health services in medically underserved areas.  FQHCs receive operating grants under Section 330 of the United States Public Health Service Act.  In order to comply with federal law, FQHCs must be established as a not-for-profit corporation and the majority of the board of directors must be consumers of the services provided by the facility.
